Northstar Studio

TGMA was asked to convert a dated Northstar studio condominium into a chic near-one-bedroom pied-a-terre. Thoughtful design required consideration for existing utility and mechanical chases as they could not be moved. One open studio space and a small bathroom was divided into two new spaces and an efficient yet spacious bathroom. The bedroom has been elegantly severed from the living and kitchen areas by a code-compliant half-wall that remains just over 50% “open” to the remaining space for egress reasons. A sad kitchenette was reworked to include full kitchen amenities through the use of micro-appliances suitable for a boat. Storage was in high demand and several custom cabinets designed by TGMA are found throughout the sub-300 square foot apartment: bedroom wall, fireplace surround, kitchen cabinets, sculptural entry cubbies, and bathroom linen storage. The fireplace cabinetry includes a bar area for apres-ski cocktails and a television. Carefully selected furniture round out the intimate space into a very functional ski retreat.
